Item: Soapstone Family

Soapstone is quarried in a small town called Tabaka near Kisii, Kenya. The natural stone is soft and varies in color from pure white, cream, and rose to a charcoal gray.
Richard Juma travels from Nakuru to Kisii to purchase roughly shaped soapstone figures. He then returns to Nakuru and with Elijah and Lucy finishes carving, sanding and polishing figures in natural stone such as this soapstone family.
It stands 6" high and depicts a family of two parents and three children.
