Item: Soapstone Figure![]() Soapstone is quarried in a small town called Tabaka near Kisii, Kenya. The natural stone is soft and varies in color from pure white, cream, and rose to a charcoal gray. Richard Juma travels from Nakuru to Kisii to purchase roughly shaped soapstone figures. He then returns to Nakuru and with Elijah and Lucy finishes carving, sanding, applying dye if desired and polishing figures such as this soapstone figurine. This figurine is done in natural soapstone and stands 6 1/2" high on a 2 1/2" base and depicts a family of two parents and two children.
