Soapstone is quarried in Tabaka, Kisii, Kenya.  The stone blocks are sold to soapstone carvers whi carve out the rough shapes and sell them to stone finishers.  The finishers complete the shaping of the stone, and finish it with their own unique style. 

This siapstone thinker was left in the natural soapstone. It stands 4 1/2" tall on a 2" base.
