Item: Round Drum
A resonant round 17" diameter drum. The core is metal covered with fur-on goatskin. Over time and use the fur on the drum surfaces wears off mellowing the sound. The drum is constructed with two pieces of goat hide stitched together with rawhide on a metal base. Loops are made with the rawhide to act as handles. These are the drums used most often by Kikuyu for church and mourning ceremonies. Some evenings thoughts are drawn to eternal things as the drums beat throughout the night.
