Soapstone is quarried in Tabaka, Kenya.  It is chipped from the quarry by hand and then carried to the roadside.  At the roadside it is then purchased by the carvers.  The carvers  will then rough cut it into an item to be taken back to Tabaka where it will then be purchased by a finisher.  The finisher will then dye,etch and then put a high sheen on the item. Though some basic designs are repeated, each is unique. 

This sugar dish is approximately 3 inches deep and 5 inches in diameter and its total height is approximately 6 inches tall.  Its uses are as broad as your imagination.
