The first step to making this Luo Pot is to soften the stone in water and complete the carvings with a small knife and sandpaper.  When the item is dry, it is painted in the desired design and a small knife or nail file is used to etch around the design to bring out the color of the natural stone beneath. It is then waxed and polished.

This Luo Pot is approximately 4 1/4" in diameter at the mouth, 3" at the base, and 7" tall.  The image displays a zebra and as you turn the piece around, there stands a hippo.
