These Rain Sticks were bought from a Shipibo cooperatively owned store in Yarina Cocha called Marate Shobo. It is cooperatively owned by the Shipibos and the artists who make the art work at the store. The artist get all the profits.

The design on the sticks is an ancient way of expressing a story that has age old significance. Although the meaning of the designs has been lost, anthropologists theorize that the designs could be a form of language, or that they represent the twisting rivers and canals and is special to the shipbo culture.
