Maurice Otieno was born on August 2, 1981 in Naivasha, Kenya. In 1988, his father died leaving his mother with six children to support. Maurice began selling peanuts in the streets to help support his family. When he entered seventh grade his interest in art began. Recognizing his talent, his mother began selling his paintings in the marketplace. Maurice recently completed high school with high grades on his KCSE examination. He is currently applying for scholarships for college. Maurice's family is extremely poor. The major souce of income for the family is from the sale of Maurice's and his younger brother Mark's paintings. Maurice hopes to earn enough money to attend college, find employment and educate his brothers and sisters. |
